Legal expense cover
There is a wide variety of different covers available, but a typical commercial legal expenses policy might cover costs incurred:
in pursuing actions against third parties for the enforcement of legal rights (for example, the proposer may have damage to property and wish to sue the person or firm that caused the damage; if unsuccessful, the defendant’s costs would also be paid)
in connection with contracts entered into
in connection with debt recovery
in connection with tenancy disputes
in defending a claim where costs are not otherwise insured
in defending industrial tribunal cases – there has been an increase of 80% in such cases over the last five years
in defending tax or VAT investigations.
